We celebrate Karen Emery, vice president of product management, as a finalist for the Women in Technology Unsung Hero Award. The Women in Technology Awards recognize the vision, talent and mentorship of professional women in the Washington, DC, area, and we are excited to have Karen recognized for her achievements.

Karen drives the technology product strategy and the development and launch of specialized Defense satellite communications (SATCOM) products that help the military meet mission success. Instead of sitting on the sidelines, Karen rises to the opportunities that make solutions better and move secure communications forward, even when it’s tough. Her fierceness comes with her unique ability to facilitate hard decisions in an inclusive and consensus-driven way.

Her latest work includes advancing iDirect Government’s Defense-in-Depth approach that creates layers of protection for secure SATCOM. She also considers solutions with a reduced size, weight and power (SWaP) footprint, given space limitations of some Defense installations.Additionally, Karen supports myriad philanthropic and community activities, donating to charities and volunteering hours for the good of communities. She advocates that giving back to the community and working beyond the call of duty has a ripple effect on people’s lives for the better—transforming lives in meaningful ways.

Karen will be honored at a finalists’ event on April 25. Women in Technology will announce award winners at its Leadership Awards Gala on May 18. We are cheering Karen on.
